The tasting

Colour: Lively and deep, the colour is a beautiful plum red.

Nose: Complex, this wine mixes fruity fragrances (blackberries) with creamy coffee notes.

Palate

A perfectly balanced wine, the palate exudes aromas of red fruits and Madagascar vanilla. The palate is charming with its silky tannins as well as its fresh and persistent finish.

Storage

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2019 can be cellared until 2039, enabling this wine to reveal its full aromatic range.

The estate

The prestigious magazine, Wine Enthusiast, honoured Penfolds as their 2013 New World Winery of the Year, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an icon of fine Australian wines at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Mary Penfold’s unparalleled determination. Indeed, the co-founder of the Penfolds estate put her heart and soul into making exceptional wines. Her lifelong work is reflected in the winery's success in establishing itself as a benchmark in Southern Australia. When Max Schubert became part of the Penfolds' story in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of fine Bordeaux wines, that fascinated him greatly, into the estate's wines. Success shortly followed when the cellar master produced his famous Grange wines, which crossed Australian borders in order to win the hearts of wine lovers from all around the world. Today, the talented Peter Gago has taken over this role.

The vineyard

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2019 comes from the Coonawarra vineyard, the Syrah grape variety for this wine has always been sourced from this vineyard. This region is renowned for its cool climate as well as the precision and seductiveness of its fragrant red wines. Enjoying a moderate climate, Bin 128 is made with fruit from the unique terra rossa soils of Coonawarra. The Coonawarra vineyard has been this wine’s sole source of Syrah since the very first vintage in 1962.

The vinification and ageing

Following the harvest and the fermentation process, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak demi-muids (24% of which are new).
