Description
Chateau Talbot is located in the wine-producing village of Saint Julien in the Hau-Medoc region of Bordeaux, France.
The name of the manor comes from John Talbot, a British army commander in the mid-15th century. It was during the Hundred Years War between England and France, and the general was the governor of the Guyenne region. In the Battle of Castillon in 1453, the French army defeated and killed General John Talbot, and the land of Bordeaux finally returned to the embrace of France.
It is said that the general’s base camp was once on the land where Dabao Manor is located, so the winery was named after his surname.
In the early 19th century, the winery's wines began to receive widespread acclaim. At the time it was managed by the Marquis d’Aux family.
After that, the winery changed hands twice and was acquired by Desire Cordier in 1918.
The winery's vineyards are located between Chateau Leoville-Barton, Chateau Leoville-Poyferre and Chateau Leoville Las Cases. The terroir conditions are very excellent and they are located at the highest point in the area.
The higher hills bring sufficient sunlight and good drainage conditions to the vineyards. The gravel and limestone soil with excellent heat storage and drainage allow the grapes to fully mature and have rich flavor. The mild climate of the estuary delta also provides good conditions for the grapes. The necessary climatic conditions are provided for smooth growth.
The winery currently has 110 hectares of vineyards, including 105 hectares of red grape varieties and 5 hectares of white grape varieties.
The proportion of red grape planting is 66% Cabernet Saucevignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot; the proportion of white grape planting is 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon.
